Environmental Law
Environmental law, real estate, land use, and development issues arise in virtually every aspect of commercial life and affect every business at one time or another. Our firm has practical experience with the multitude of legal issues concerning the following:
- Buying, selling, or leasing property
- Permits
- Solid waste
- Wetlands
Our firm uses that experience to work with clients to facilitate transactions, to intercede effectively on behalf of our clients in regulatory matters, and to provide sound legal advice to our clients for which a real estate transaction is only an incidental occurrence. Those of our clients who operate directly in the real estate business have, in the past few years, had to function in an increasingly volatile environment. Our firm understands that a real estate transaction is not a negotiation over form documents. We understand that every deal is fragile until it is closed successfully. And we understand that, even after the deal closes, it may need to withstand challenges on many fronts.
In addition to litigation and trial experience, we also counsel clients in their dealings with local zoning boards and citizens' groups, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other federal and Minnesota state entities. We give our clients legal and practical guidance in their deal structuring, tax planning, due diligence investigations and post-closing business affairs. We help our clients anticipate and avoid problems as well as work through those problems that do arise. We combine keen insight, expertise, and experience to go beyond a cookie-cutter approach and develop personalized plans to achieve the best results for our environmental law, real estate, land use, and development clients.
